We have handmade some really beautiful clothing. It really has to be seen to be believed. These garments will have your friends all asking where you got them from. So take a look and grab yourself a bargain as we aren’t sure how long these clothes will last at these low prices for the amount of effort that was put into making them.
We’ll be adding some more soon – so keep an eye out.
So, what are you wearing? It’s not a trick question but I doubt you’ll give me the answer I’m looking for. Why’s that you may ask? Well, because you can’t see the things I’m asking you about. You can’t see them, you can’t feel them and you can’t smell them (you certainly can’t hear them). They’re the chemical nasties that your high street clothing is harbouring.
A recent report by Greenpeace highlighted that some of the big boys on the high street’s products, in particular clothing and shoes, contain some nasty chemicals that really are not doing you any good. In fact, some of these chemicals have been shown to affect the genetic makeup of animals.
The report entitled ‘A Little Story About The Monsters In Your Closet’, can be read here. It lists some of the companies that are selling these items of clothing…you might raise an eyebrow. Then again, you might not. We’re talking Disney, Primark, H&M, Adidas, to name but a few.
Here at FKHQ we’ve known about these for quite a while and why most of our fabrics are sourced from organic suppliers (and bear the OEKOTEX and GOTs organic certifications) and our handmade clothing are made from these. Please bear this in mind when you’re buying your next item of clothing from the high street.
We’ve added some more items to our sale category including the completely brilliant Snowdon Design gift/lunch bags are a going for a song at just £5.50. Only a few left so they’ll be snapped up very soon.
Lots of clothing has also been added too. Check out the Monikako range of quirky tops and skirts which currently has 45% off.
You’ll also find lots of Maileg at knock down prices. Again, these are proving so popular that some items have come into stock and gone straight out of stock that day. Don’t worry, we have ordered more. If you would like to be emailed when items come back into stock, please sign up to our infrequent newsletter.
We have added some craft kits to the website. The very cute Paapii kits just require a needle, thread, stuffing and lots of showing off when finished.
Did you know we now offer price matching? Well we do. For further info please click here.
We also offer telephone ordering so you can pay safely and securely over the phone. Our number is on our homepage.
If there is anything you would like to ask us or you have a query, then please call or contact us.
So once again I’m up to my armpits in paint. No, not literally. Nor am I doing my own version of tv’s Splash! sponsored by Dulux. I’m on the move again. I’ve taken one of the slightly larger units on the ground floor which will hopefully grab me more customers who will not be able to escape the pull of my lovely stuff calling to them. The keen amongst you good folk will remember that it was only last November that I first settled into the original unit on the first floor, which was also lovingly decorated with my subtle touch of ‘poke your eye out pink’ ™.
Ok first up on the news front is we have some new suppliers. Yippee! Welcome aboard the good ship FK to Twisted Tee, Tee and Toast and Moomins. Each working day feels more and more like I’m off to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party which is good, as that forms part of my company mission statement. All shiny precious things will be with us by end of January at the latest and I will be putting them on the website as they land.
Already landed, unpacked, swooned over and kissed, are these marvellous mono print jersey fabrics from Lillestoff. All are GOTS certified which is something we have come to expect from our fabulous supplier. It is now on the website to buy-as-quick-as-you-can and is available from £5.49. Colours available of red, blue and green. Very versatile, hard wearing and easy to care for.
On a final note, the Moomins are coming! In their droves. Also with us by the end of January. There will be a fantastic selection of household goodies with their adorable faces on them.
Some of the eagle eyed amongst you will already know that we’ve acquired new premises for our actual physical shop. Yep, a real one with shelves and real people and everything.
After a lick of paint last week (eye popping raspberry) and some funky decals to go on the walls, we’re almost ready to wow the good people of Cheshire (darling) with our take on funky wares for the small people. It’s all been positive so far (from fellow traders and passing customers) both with comments on the design of the shop and the fact we’ll be doing something a bit different.
If you are passing by Sale or Altrincham then swing by and say hello. You can find us at Traders Outlet on Tatton Road, Sale (by the Town Hall). We officially open to trade on Monday 12th November.
….and you’ll find them all here at Funky Kitsch. Our new swoonable clothing range has been born. They are ridiculously easy to wear and care for. Adaptable to dress up or down and, due to the fact that we source only the best quality fabric and the most ethical where possible, will last for ages. It’s win/win.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that we include this paragraph at the bottom of each garment page and if you haven’t noticed it yet, then you can read it now.
“Here at Funky Kitsch HQ we like to keep things fresh and new. Our lines of clothing for boys and girls are either one off creations or limited runs. Once the fabric stash has left the building, then we shall have more new and exciting stuff on the way to take it’s place. By constantly changing our fabric designs, we know you’ll never have that embarrassing situation of turning up at a party with someone else wearing the same outfit. No Siree. You will be (almost) unique.”
In general we make sizes for ages 1-5 but if you would like something bigger (or smaller), just drop us a line and we’ll be more than happy to accomodate requests.
We’ve been busy beavering away on the first line of clothing. It’s nearly ready and will be online for perusal this coming weekend (subject to weather and temperamental models).
Whilst ensconsed in our very own little sweatshop of 2 (me and Dawn), I’ve found that music gets me through the day. I was thinking that when I do my first tute, it will be entitled ‘Sew Along with the Backstreet Boys’. I know Dawn will cry when she sees that – and not with laughter.
So, brand FK is ready to hit you guys between the eyes. The question is; are you ready?
Quilting is a technique of padding a fabric. It consists of two layers, with batting between the top and the backing fabric. It is then stitched with decorative designs or threads tied through in order to prevent the batting from shifting. The quilting stitches are spaced with regularity. The multiple lines of a running stitch are done by hand or the use of a sewing machine.
The fabrics used for quilting are pre-washed as well as pressed. The fabrics should be easy to put a needle through. They are lightweight and comfortable. Quilting fabrics for pillows and clothing are very luxurious. They drape and wear beautifully.
Type of Fabrics used for Quilting
Manufacturers for quilts use various types of fabrics such as:
