Nationaldagen 2013 – Sweden
Välkomna!
It seems that June is the month for celebrating Scandinavian cultures. On the back of yesterdays Danish Grundlovsdag (and Fathers’ Day), today is Sweden’s turn to celebrate; it’s Nationaldagen!
Nationaldagen is a day of celebration in Sweden. It’s a relatively new national holiday, beginning in 2005, when it replaced Whit Monday.
It signifies the end of the Danish-ruled Kalmar Union, so in a sense it is a marking of Swedish independence.
So all you lovely Swedish people out there today, enjoy your day off. Have fun meeting with friends and family. Enjoy your fika and raise your voices for Den blomstertid nu kommer!
